Resources

The links below include resources mentioned during the program, suggested follow-up activities, and more!

Globe at Night is an international citizen-science campaign to raise public awareness of the impact of light pollution by inviting citizen-scientists to measure & submit their night sky brightness observations. Their constellation of the month for May 2020 is Leo! To fully complete an observation for submission is a task that is not difficult, but requires patience, and may not be appropriate for the youngest learners. There is a very detailed guide to making an observation here. More casual observers may simply want to attempt to locate Leo in the sky, and take note of how many of the stars of the constellation are visible.

Perspectives of Earth - Earth at Night. Explore images of the Earth at night taken from the International Space Station. The bright lights that cause light pollution are easily visible from space, and can often reveal clues about patterns of human settlement, migration, and even conflicts. You’ll find related educational activities and more under “Pathways to Exploration.”
